My Book
As I shared earlier in the week, my first book signing was today. I really had no idea what to expect as it was held in the thrift store run by a friend of mine (ok, she became my friend when her daughter married my ex-husband. Can you say redneck? Life in a small town.), but I think that overall it went quite well. Again, because it is small town, I knew everyone whose books I signed, but that helps because then I didn't have to look like a fool and say, "what did you say your name was? Ellen or Felon?"
So the book is doing well. I recieved my fourth quarter statement from my publisher and I was pretty pleased with that. My first check will be arriving in the next two weeks.
ROW80 Goals
Daily goals –
1- Write for an hour a day. I can't honestly say this happened this week. I really didn't work on anything new all week, but I did write two extra blog posts, so I will give myself two points, because I make the rules here.
2- Market my book or other current project for one hour a day. I can say with confidence that I did market my book everyday. One day I think that is all I did. Seven points.
3- Comment on one other blog. I think I commented on other blogs six times this week, maybe more or less, I lose track. Six points.
Weekly goals –
1- Post to Dino Chronicles three times a week. Ok, I posted five times, because I am still shooting for blogging every day the entire month of January. But I think I can still only give myself three points, because I gave myself points for this above.
2- Post to Writing What I Can When I Can twice a week. Yup, two times, two points.
3- Work on my social networks, by adding to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Goodreads and Pinterest each once a week. This has got to be a first. I think I only worked on social networking three times this week for three points.
Monthly goals-
1- Do research on my novel. Didn't get to this yet this month.
2- Submit something somewhere. Still sticking with my story that I submitted two things already this month. Eight points.
Which all adds up to 31 points out of I can't remember how many points. Maybe my system has failed me.
Huge congratulations on your book signing. That's amazing. :)

Thanks, Laura. It has been way more work than I had thought it would be. But so worth it.
Deletewell done on the book signing - don't know much about small towns:) You have done something toward each goal so I rekon you did well - my opinion and I'm sticking to it:) all the best for this coming week
ReplyDeleteThanks Alberta Ross. All of the support I have received is worth as much as the books I have sold.
DeleteAdding my congratulations on the book signing! That's very exciting! And well done on your goals - even if you didn't reach all of them for the week, you've clearly still been putting a lot of effort in!
ReplyDeleteThanks again to everyone. I know that I am slowly working on my goals. I have a lot on my plate and I shouldn't be so hard on myself. In general, all is good in my world right now.
DeleteOoh, I love the idea of daily/weekly/monthly goals. I might have to incorporate that.
ReplyDeleteGreat progress! Keep it up!
Thanks, Nicole, good luck with your own goals.
DeleteI love the idea of doing a book signing in a place other than a bookstore. (I wonder if the local cafe I spent so much of my writing time in would mind if I scheduled my signing in there when I get to that point.) What made you think of doing it that way? (I know what you mean about the work though--I used to help setup book signings for convention guests at a fandom convention).
ReplyDeleteYour goals are great, and yes, you make the rules, so what you say counts. Looks like you're on top of everything anyway. Good for you.
Kymele, when my book first came out, Mary Beth, my friend who runs the store, right away offered to host the book signing. It helped out her struggling business that day, and helped me out too. A win, win.
DeleteIt has all been fun, which makes it all worth while.
Hi Chris, it looks like Kait has hit some trouble and we have no mid-week check-in. So no one is left out, please come over to our Facebook group and leave a link to your check-in post and we will be over to visit. The page address is https://www.facebook.com/groups/row80/ Alternatively, email me at katiecrcole@gmail.com and I'll pass your post on. I know Facebook isn't everyone's cup of tea!
ReplyDeleteShould we have no Linky on Sunday, we'll just keep working this way until things sort themselves out.
Cheers!
