Where am I going?

Today I head off to my third annual Christian Writers Conference at Green Lake. I’m so excited to reunite with the friends I have made over the last two years, as well as looking forward to learning lots about the elusive craft of writing. The beautiful grounds of Green Lake Conference Center are also calling to me. I can’t stress enough to anyone living anywhere nearby (less than two hours northwest of Milwaukee) that you need to go spend some time there for exploration and in quiet reflection. And don’t forget your camera.

While at the Conference Center I won’t have a regular internet connection. I know, really? Yes, really. So I won’t be checking my e-mail or social networks as frequently as usual, and won’t be blogging til next weekend. It’s time for me to seriously write.

As far as my goals this past week, I scored a nine out of 16. I wrote three posts for my other blog, I wrote for three hours, I did research on my novel for one hour and I worked on my social networks twice. This coming week, it's going to be all about writing, writing, writing.
I call this picture "Writer's Feet". I took it last year at Green Lake, while I was outside trying to write. Don't look too close for toe-jam.

  1. I can't believe I haven't heard of this retreat! And I live in Wisconsin! I seriously need to check out more local writer's conferences and retreats. I have attended the UW-Madison Writers' Institute before I highly recommend. When I went it was set up with a ton of workshops and even the sessions had a lot of small group activities to get gears going and get feedback too. Don't you love Wisconites?

Enjoy the retreat! I expect a full report of your progress when you return!

    1. Thanks for the comment, Jess. I've also attended the UW's School of the Arts in Rhinelander. That offers a lot of great workshops too.

We weren't suppose to have internet in our rooms here, but I made the mistake of checking and here I am. I was so hoping to not be feeding my addiction this week.

  2. I'm writing mostly non-fiction these days, so without the internet I'd be practically helpless. Well, to be fair, even if I was writing fiction I'd still be helpless without a daily dose of digital distractions.
Enjoy the conference, and the internet connection you stumbled upon. :)

    1. Thanks, Jeff, the conference is going well, but it is all a bit overwhelming. I used to think that writing fiction would mean no research, but I sure was wrong there. The internet is a great help, but certainly a hindrance at times.

  3. What joy! This writing conference seems to combine a lovely balance between just being with like-minded writers AND the chance to be reflective in a beautiful setting. May every moment nourish your writing! And don't miss the internet. Sometimes it just might be good to unplug. And write.

    1. Thank you so much, Beth. Yes, this setting has been wonderfully inspiring. Besides being thankful for the internet, I'm also thankful for digital cameras. I take way too many pictures!
